MARY DOLBEAR

Why did you choose ALC for your daughter?

We heard about "the gift of ALC" from a dear friend and her Mom.

What is special about ALC?

ALC is the real deal. The Community is nurtured so thoughtfully at all stages of the process. The details matter and the girls & families feel it. The sense of fun and shared purpose is impressive. Family, campers and core values are at the center of the mission. The camp's

history and deep connections are a true highlight. We couldn't help but notice the special, warm, welcoming

Community right away.

What do you like most about ALC as a parent?

As parents, we were not at all sure that our daughter was ready for "sleepover" camp. We explored the website and set up a skype session with Sue and Betsy. Our daughter had her long list of questions. The patience and care of their responses quickly created trust in our daughter. Their collective warmth and humor popped off the screen and we were all quickly convinced we had found the right place.

When July finally came, Sue and Betsy (& ALC Staff) were extraordinarily supportive to ALL of us. With all the firsts, there were hurdles for everyone, but ALC knows what they are doing and we all made it. Our daughter beams when she talks of her ALC experience (as do we) and we have started the countdown to summer #2 ....

What does your daughter (s) like most about ALC?

"I love the Community and the Lake ~ all girls, all the singing, and the diversity of the girls from all over the world."  The songbook is treasured and worn. She sings them throughout the year! The power of choice in schedules invites exploration while also

empowering/inviting the girls to find and focus on a passion.

What do you think your daughter (s) gained as a camper at ALC?

Our daughter gained confidence, trust, determination, and sense of self. As she faced challenges and activities for the first time on her own away from home, she began to recognize and believe in her abilities in a new way.  At ALC, she strengthened her muscles, resilience and spirit; she developed a deep reserve upon which she draws throughout the year.  When the going gets rough, her inner voice now brings her back to positive challenges at ALC to cheer herself on.
